DMV Services: Services

This is a list of the different DMV services we offer with some information on what is need to process each transaction.

VEHICLE TITLE & REGISTRATION

Transfer Of Ownership:

In order to transfer a vehicle title and registration into your name you will need to bring with you:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • ​Original Vehicle Title or Manufacturer's Certificate of Ownership (MCO) properly signed off

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

  • Lien Release if previously financed and lienholder did not sign off title

Registration Renewal:

To renew the registration on your vehicle you will need to bring:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Vehicle VIN or plate number

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

Lien Release:

If you are not transferring ownership but need to remove the lienholder you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Original title signed off by lienholder or original title and lien release document from lienholder with date, signature and title of person releasing lien

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

Duplicate Title:

If you need a new title for a vehicle already in your name you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Drivers License

  • Original completed Application for Duplicate Title

NAME CHANGE

Changing Title To Married Name:

To change the name on a title from your maiden to married name you will need:

  • Government issued ID or Driver's License 

  • Original or true and certified copy of Marriage Certificate

  • Original title signed off under seller with maiden name and signed under buyer with married name

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

Changing Title To Married Name And Adding Spouse:

To change the name on a title from your maiden name to married name and add a spouse you will need:

  • Government issued ID or Driver's License for both 

  • Original or true and certified copy of Marriage Certificate

  • Original title signed off under seller with maiden name and signed under seller with married name and by spouse

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

TRANSACTIONS REQUIRING VIN INSPECTION

*Please note all these transactions require the vehicle to be present at the appointment*

Homemade Trailers:

In order to title and register a homemade trailer you will need to bring with you:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Certified weight slip for trailer

  • Original completed Homebuilt Trailer Affidavit

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

Reconstructed Vehicles:

Note: we cannot title vehicles sold as Parts Only

To title and register a junked vehicle as reconstructed you will need to bring:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Paperwork and bill of sale for vehicle 

  • Original completed Reconstruct Vehicle Affidavit

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

Abandoned Vehicles:

If you want to title and register a vehicle abandoned on your property for over 6 months you will need to request research (a separate transaction listed under Other DMV on this page) and then send out a certified letter to the titled owner of record. If the vehicle is unclaimed 30 days later you can then take ownership of the vehicle. To do so you will need to bring:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Copy of letter sent to owner of record

  • Return receipt or letter returned unopened as undeliverable, refused or unclaimed 

  • Completed and notarized Claim Of Ownership / Involuntary Lien

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

Impound Auction Vehicles:

To title a vehicle purchased at an impound auction you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Drivers License

  • Completed and notarized Claim Of Ownership / Involuntary Lien

  • Original completed Application for Duplicate Title

Estate - Deceased Owner:

If you are a executor or personal representative of the estate of a deceased person and want to transfer a title you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Drivers License

  • Original or certified copy of death certificate

  • Letters Testamentary, Letters of Administration or Letter of Appointment

  • Original title (if the original is not available an appointment for duplicate title must be scheduled separately prior to this transaction)

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

Forfeiture Vehicles:

To title and register a vehicle purchased from a municipal, state or federal law enforcement agency at public auction you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Drivers License

  • Forfeiture paperwork from the auction

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

Foreign Vehicles:

To title and register a foreign vehicle you will need:

  •  Valid government issued ID or Drivers License

  • Original title, MCO or ownership documents

  • Original completed bill of sale

  • Customs documents

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

Surety Bond Vehicles:

For vehicles without the proper ownership documents you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Drivers License

  • Written appraisal from an Alaska dealer from within 90 days

  • Bond from insurance company for one and a half times the appraised value

  • Original completed and notarized Surety Bond form

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

OTHER DMV TRANSACTIONS

Personalized/Specialty Plate:

To order personalized or specialty plates you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • VIN or AK plate number

  • Original completed Personalized Plate form

 

One Way Trip Permit:

When you need to move a vehicle that is not registered from point A to point B you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Proof of ownership (Ex: registration, sale documents)

Research Request:

If you need the registered owner's name and address information for certain DMV transactions or other criteria listed on the form you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Original completed Request For Vehicle Record

CDL Medical Cert:

To update your CDL Medical Certification you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Medical certification from your doctor

  • Original completed Alaska CDL Medical Certification form

Disability Placard:

To obtain a disability placard you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Disabled Parking Application completed by doctor 

Driving Record:

For a copy of your driving record you will need:

  • Valid government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Completed Request For Driving Record form

MCS-150:

If you are a commercial customer who needs to update their MCS-150 you will need:

  • USDOT number

  • Employer Identification Number (EIN)

  • Total mileage for all vehicles from previous year

  • Completed MCS-150 form

ATV/SNOWMOBILE REGISTRATION

Registration:

For ATV/Snowmobile registration you will need:

  • Government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Bill of sale or ownership documents from the dealership

  • Original completed Vehicle Transaction Application

BOAT TITLE & REGISTRATION

Title & Registration:

For titling and registering a boat you will need to bring with you:

  • Government issued ID or Driver's License

  • Original Manufacturer's Certificate of Ownership (MCO), Manufacturer's Statement of Ownership (MSO) or title and registration from previous state

  • Original completed Boat Title & Registration Application
